Electrical Competence Programme


Formerly known as the Electrical Refresher Course, the Electrical Competence Programme covers the EWRB requirements for renewal of a practising licence for Electricians, Electrical Installers and Electrical Engineers.

Courses are between 6 and 6½ hours duration with a start time of 10am. You will need to complete an EWRB e-learning module before attending the course.

You will learn

This course will allow you to renew your practising licence, and covers:

  • First Aid (Refresher)
  • CPR (Refresher)
  • Supervision of trainees
  • Earthing requirements as listed in AS/NZS 3000:2007
  • The purpose, usage and operational testing of residual current devices
  • Prospective short circuit currents
  • Testing requirements in accordance with AS/NZS 3000:2007 and AS/NZS 3760:2010 & the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010
  • Issues of concern to the EWRB

Content may change as required to reflect requirements of training guidelines issued by the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB). 

Info and requirements

All registered electrical workers must hold a practising licence to carry out prescribed electrical work and this licence must be renewed every two years.

To renew a practising licence, you must have passed a current EWRB approved competency training programme (previously called a Refresher Course) relevant to the class of registration you hold.

Places are limited and subject to availability. To reserve a place on a course, download and complete the reply form on the right and return it with the remittance advice and/or payment to Shift Innovation Centre Ltd. One form is required for each attendee.
